You want to send funds to the accounts of your clients/employees/acquaintances. Are you in too much of a hurry to enter the wrong account number and don’t check the beneficiary’s name further? And you ended up transferring wrong?
You’ve already sent money to someone you don’t know. And the recipient shouldn’t even have received the money? This of course will make you panic, especially if the nominal amount of the wrong transfer is quite large? Then, what should you do? Here are some things you can do to deal with this problem.
What To Do When Wrong Transfer To A Bank Account
Calm down, don’t panic
The first step is to calm yourself first and don’t panic – well, this can be a bit tricky to do. By staying calm, you will be able to think more clearly so that you can make decisions and act better and less rashly.
Second, you must make a statement regarding this wrong transfer. The certificate must at least include the following: to bank xxx, subject, applicant (full name, gender, nationality, address, contact, account number, etc.), statement of wrong transfer along with nominal, wrong transfer account and also the beneficiary’s account which should.
This letter can be personal or official. To get an official certificate of wrong transfer, you can ask the police for it.
Make a Report to the Bank
If there is a wrong transfer, you should immediately report this to the bank. Immediately visit the nearest bank branch office, or you can report it via Call Center. Only, if the distance of the bank is close to your place. It would be better if you go to him in person for clearer information.
What if it turns out that your destination account is different from the bank you use? Well, you should also make a report to the bank. Choose the nearest branch from where you are.
Well, here are the steps for reporting wrong transfers by coming directly to the bank:
- Go to the bank. Make sure you bring the required documents.
- Documents that you must prepare include the original ID card, savings book, and proof of transfer. Proof of this transfer can be in the form of ATM receipts or screenshots of SMS Banking and Mobile Banking.
- Take a queue at the bank’s customer service section. Wait until your turn is called.
- Describe the chronology of the problems you are experiencing.
- After that, the bank will verify. This is done after you have submitted all the report files. Then you just have to follow the bank’s customer service advice. If the customer service says it will take care of it then you just have to wait.
Indeed, the process is not short. However, this would be better than just standing idly by and resigning when sending the wrong money. Usually the customer service will call you at a later date to take care of this wrong transfer of funds.
In this case the customer service or the bank will position itself as an intermediary/intermediary/mediator. You will also be linked with the owner of the wrong transfer account.

Religious and criminal law awaits using the wrong money transfer
What is the law if the recipient of the wrong transfer does not have the good faith to return the funds to the account holder? In this case, he already knew that the funds were wrongly transferred and not his rights.
The recipient of the wrong transfer funds does not acknowledge and wants to control the wrong transfer money. He did not make a report, clarify, or was reluctant to return the money. So, the recipient of the wrong transfer of funds can be ensnared by criminal law.
This is regulated in LAW OF THE REPUBLIC OF INDONESIA NUMBER 3 YEAR 2011 CONCERNING TRANSFER OF FUNDS. In Article 85 which reads, “Anyone who knowingly controls and admits as his possession the transfer proceeds which are known or ought to be known are not entitled to be punished with imprisonment for a maximum of 5 (five) years or a fine of a maximum of Rp. 5,000,000,000.00 ( five billion rupiah).”
So, recipients of wrongly transferred funds can be threatened with a maximum of 5 years in prison and a maximum fine of 5 billion rupiah if they do the things above.
From a religious point of view, using wrongly transferred funds is not a justifiable act because using other people’s funds that are not their rights is not a commendable act.
What to do if you make the wrong transfer? You can make a wrong transfer report and go to the bank with supporting evidence. As additional tips, always check and recheck when you make a fund transfer transaction so that there is no wrong transfer.
What if you received the wrong money transfer? As soon as you realize that there is a wrong money transfer, you should immediately make a report to the relevant bank and return the money in full. This precautionary principle will save you from criminal snares.
